Dog owners living in a disaster prone area are advised to create an emergency kit for their dog that contains the necessary supplies in case an emergency evacuation occurs. This kit should be located in a handy location and include the following:
-
Leash and collar with ID tags already attached
-
Medical health records
-
A copy of your AKC registration documentation
-
Recent pet photo
-
3 day supply of food, medication, and water
-
Food / water dishes
-
Blankets and bedding
-
Crate
-
A few favorite toys
-
Plastic “pick up” bags
Lastly, it is to have your dog’s permanent identification registered with the AKC Companion Animal Recovery database.
